Tin and Gold are heavy minerals, both are found in alluvial deposits and can be recovered using a Gold Pan, the traditional method of searching for heavy metals - especially GOLD.

Instruction on the use of the Gold Pan is given. Charges: Children £3.00 Adults £4.50 per 20 minutes

GOLD PANNING

Our sluice boxes contain real river alluvials from the River Cober, once the most important source of alluvial tin in West Cornwall, genuine alluvial GOLD from a river in Arizona, Iron Pyrite (Fools Gold) from Chile and Tin bearing sand from Cornwall. Other sites which offer Gold Panning use quarried gravel and sand and jeweller's gold offcuts - at Poldark we try to be as realistic as possible.

Our GEMSANDS contain two and a half tons of fine sand from an ancient raised beach. Within the sands there are always FOUR FACETED DIAMONDS of between 3.3 and 4 mm diameter (10 to 15 points) with a retail value of between £100 and £120 plus TOPAZ, AMETHYST, GARNET SAPPIRE AND OTHER genuine natural faceted precious gemstones and a LARGE SELECTION selection of tumble polished gemstones, YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING OF INTEREST !
